Our Ampelite Range

Ampelite make two wind driven roof ventilators, and we supply both. Neither needs power, wiring or maintenance — the turbine turns in the breeze and draws hot, stale air out of the roof cavity, all year round at no running cost.

Spinaway is the everyday whirlybird and our biggest seller. Light, durable aluminium on a sealed dual bearing housing, with a reinforced nylon chassis for silent running and a 10-year Ampelite warranty. Suited to tiled and metal roofs.

Superflow is the step up. Same wind driven principle with the unique SuperFlow fan, built for a longer service life and backed by a 15-year Ampelite warranty. Worth the difference on a roof you don't want to think about again.

Both come in mill finish plus a wide range of colours, and Ampelair fireproof vent mesh is available for bushfire prone areas. Full specifications for each are below.

Why Is Roof Ventilation So Important?

Your roof cavity can become one of the hottest areas of your home.On a hot Sydney summer day, solar heat absorbed by your roof can build up in the roof space. Without adequate ventilation, that heat can remain trapped above your ceiling and contribute to higher indoor temperatures.

A properly designed ventilation system helps extract hot air from the roof cavity and encourage airflow through the roof space.

That can mean:
* Less heat trapped above your ceiling
* A more comfortable home
* Reduced reliance on air conditioning
* Potentially lower cooling electricity consumption
* Better airflow through the roof cavity
*Reduced humidity and condensation
*Less opportunity for moisture-related mould and mildew
* A healthier, fresher-feeling home

And because the Superflow is wind-driven, it operates without adding a dedicated electrical running cost.

What Is a Whirlybird?

You may know them as:

Whirlybirds • Roof Vents • Roof Ventilators • Turbine Vents • Roof Exhaust Vents • Roof Space Ventilators

They all refer to products designed to help ventilate your roof space.

The Ampelite Superflow uses aerodynamic components and an internal fan design to move air efficiently through the roof cavity. Ampelite says the Superflow can improve home comfort while reducing the electrical energy needed for cooling.

300mm Ampelite Superflow

A Smarter Way to Ventilate Your Roof.

The 300mm Superflow is designed for residential roof ventilation and is suitable for new homes, renovations and many existing roofs.

Why choose Superflow?

*
15-Year Warranty: Superflow is backed by a 15-year warranty from Ampelite.
* No Dedicated Electricity Required: The ventilator is designed to operate without adding another electrical appliance to your home.
* Designed for Efficient Air Movement: Its aerodynamic components are designed to move hot, stale air efficiently through the roof space.
* Strong Construction: Superflow features a fibreglass-reinforced nylon chassis and sealed dual-bearing housing for quiet, long-lasting operation.
* Australian Designed: Ampelite Superflow is an Australian-designed product.
* Colour-Matched to Your Roof: Choose from a wide selection of Colorbond® colours to achieve a professional-looking roof installation.

Summer: Get the Heat Out

Your roof is exposed to the Australian sun all day.
That heat can build up inside the roof cavity and eventually transfer heat toward your ceiling and living areas.
A roof ventilator helps exhaust the accumulated hot air from the roof space.

The result?
Your air conditioner may not have to work as hard to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.The Australian Government states that heating and cooling can represent 20% to 50% of energy use in Australian homes, so reducing cooling demand can be an important part of improving household energy efficiency.

Important: the actual electricity and dollar savings from roof ventilation vary significantly between homes. Roof ventilation works best as part of a complete roof/ceiling ventilation and insulation strategy.

Winter: Remove Moisture & Condensationding

Roof ventilation isn't only about summer heat.

During winter, moisture and condensation can accumulate in poorly ventilated roof spaces.

Humidity and moisture can contribute to conditions that encourage mould and mildew.

Effective ventilation helps move damp air out of the building and can reduce humidity and the potential for mould.

That's why roof ventilation should be considered a year-round investment, not simply a summer cooling product.

How Much Money Can a Whirlybird Save?

This is one of the most common questions we get.

The honest answer is:

There isn't one dollar figure that applies to every home.

Your potential saving depends on:
* Size and design of your home
* Roof typeRoof colour
* Roof orientation
* Amount of direct sunlight
* Ceiling insulation
* Existing ventilation
* Number and positioning of vents
* Outdoor temperature
* How often you use air conditioning
* Your electricity tariff
* How efficiently your air conditioner operates

The benefit comes from helping reduce the heat load in your roof space, which can potentially reduce the amount of cooling your home requires.

One of the Best Upgrades for an Existing Roof

You don't need to be building a brand-new house to improve your roof ventilation.
A Superflow roof ventilator can be considered for new roofs, replacement roofs, renovations and existing homes, subject to the roof construction and appropriate installation.
If your roof is already installed, improving roof-space ventilation can be a practical way to upgrade the performance and comfort of your home.

Building a new home? Now is the perfect time to plan your roof ventilation.
Replacing your roof? Don't replace the roof and forget about the roof cavity.
Existing home? Ask Peak Manufacturing about the right roof ventilation solution for your roof.

Available in Colorbond® Colours

Your roof ventilator doesn't have to look out of place.
Peak Manufacturing can supply Superflow vents in a broad range of Colorbond® colours, allowing you to match the ventilator with your existing roof. Ampelite lists a wide selection including popular colours such as Monument, Basalt, Surfmist, Woodland Grey, Shale Grey, Dune, Ironstone, Deep Ocean and many more.
Match your roof. Improve your roof ventilation. Keep your home looking great.

Superflow vs. an Unventilated Roof

WITHOUT ADEQUATE ROOF VENTILATION
* Heat builds up in the roof cavity
* Heat transfers toward the ceiling
* Air conditioning may need to work harder
* Moisture and condensation can accumulate
* Damp conditions can contribute to mould and mildew

WITH EFFECTIVE ROOF VENTILATION
* Hot roof-space air is exhausted
* Air movement through the roof cavity improves
* Roof-space temperatures can be reduced
* Cooling demand may be reduced
* Moisture and humidity can be managed more effectively

For best results, roof ventilation should be considered together with adequate ceiling insulation and appropriate intake ventilation.

Ampelite Spinaway® 300 mm

It's a wind-driven roof turbine ventilator designed to remove hot, stale and damp air from the roof cavity without electricity. As wind turns the turbine, it creates an extraction effect and draws air through the roof space.

Main specifications:
* Turbine diameter: 420 mm
* Throat/opening: 300 mm
* Open area: 35,800 mm² with mesh
* Weight: about 2.2 kg
* Roof pitch:
* Tiled: 15°–45°
* Metal: 3°–45°
* Base: variable pitch, 0°–45°
* Suitable for tile and metal roofs
* Available in Colorbond colours
* Uses twin stainless-steel ball bearings
* No electricity or ducting required
* Rated for BAL 12.5–BAL 40 when fitted with Ampelite's fireproof vent mesh

How many do you need?

Ampelite specifies 1 Spinaway per 7.1 m of the longest horizontal roof dimension, with the ventilator positioned no more than 900 mm below the ridge/highest point.

The important thing, though, is that a whirlybird needs replacement air to work effectively. Eave/soffit ventilation or another suitable low-level intake allows outside air to enter while the Spinaway exhausts hot air from the roof cavity. Without adequate intake ventilation, the benefit can be substantially reduced.

Does it actually cool the house?

It can reduce the temperature of the roof cavity, particularly on windy/sunny days, and it can help with moisture and condensation. Ampelite specifically markets it for removing hot air and dampness.

However, I wouldn't regard it as a substitute for good ceiling insulation and adequate roof-space intake ventilation. The ventilator's ability to make the rooms below significantly cooler depends heavily on the construction and insulation of the house.

Ampelite also makes the Superflow, which uses a three-blade fan in addition to the engineered features of the Spinaway, and the iSwirl, which combines wind operation with a solar-powered fan.

Warranty: Ampelite states a 10-year warranty against failure to rotate for the Spinaway, subject to its warranty conditions.

Why Ampelite Spinaway?

The Ampelite Spinaway is a wind-driven roof ventilator that operates without electricity. It helps exhaust hot air and moisture from the roof space, supporting better roof-space ventilation and helping reduce problems associated with dampness and condensation. Ampelite recommends providing adequate replacement air through openings such as eave vents for the system to operate effectively.
